Day 3 started off with a group activity. Pradeep Banerjee, who was the facilitator for the program asked the participants to divide themselves into groups of 5 and each group was asked to discuss and list out as many characteristics as possible which can be seen in an entrepreneur. Each group was given 10 minutes to do so and our group listed 26 characteristics. Later each group was asked to read out the characteristics. Everyone more or less baring a few points had listed the same characteristics. This was a direct activity- A mild exercise to start off the day’s proceedings

After this each one was provided with a 3 page handout which consisted of qualities which represent Regenerating Cycle, Degenerating Cycle and the characteristics of an entrepreneur. We were asked to read through the handout and clear ambiguous points. Many doubts were raised and were clarified by Mr. Banerjee.

There was a tea break of 15b minutes where we were served ummmmm.. I don’t know the name of the dish but were also given GoodDay biscuit and tea.

Mr. Banerjee had been mentioning about “Language of Entrepreneur” very frequently and I was wondering what it could be- Java? Python? or C But it was something different. The “Language of Entrepreneur” comprises of:

Achievement Imagery- AI which includes: Unique Accomplishment, Competition with self, Competition with others, long term involvement.

Instrumental Activity- IA -> Listing down the things to be done to achieve a certain goal

Personal Blocks- Pb-> This includes the personal problems

Worldly Blocks- Wb-> This includes the blocks/problems created by the outside world.

Help- H-> Help to remove some of the blocks

Goal Anticipation Positive- Ga+

Goal Anticipation Negative- Ga-

Goal Positive- G+

Goal Negative- G-

We had to learn how to use this language, for that we were asked to create stories using the language and i felt the stories created were really interesting-> will prove to be famous kannada movies. The main motive behind these stories was to help us how to use this language in our daily activities so that it will become a part of our life.

As Lunch was waiting for us we had a break of 1 hour and lunch was served-> The menu decided was good so was the food.

Now comes the most interesting part of the day- A small game-> With a great motive. A small wooden cube was passed to all the participants and were asked to feel it. Something fishy- Another game at hand. Every one closely looked at the cube and some even went to the extent of measuring the length of the side using a ruler After that we were asked to write down the height of the tower which we would build with the 47 wooden blocks provided. There were three different scenarios for which we were asked to guess the number: First was using a strong hand without blindfold, next was with the wrong hand without blindfold and last was with wrong hand with blind fold. In all the three scenarios i estimated a tower of height 15.

Now comes the most interesting part: The participants were asked to form teams of 3 where each one was assigned the role of child, mother and father. Child was blindfolded and had to build the tower with the wrong hand. What ever Mr Banerjee had been doing was with a motive so assigning the roles was also with some motive which we never noted. We thought it to be a group activity and played it as a team but in the some corner of my mind i knew that there was a great motive behind the game. All groups one by one played the game, built the tower and went back. After all the groups were done with it, the facilitator came up annoucing “I have generated huge data from the game” . Once the facilitator started revealing the data obtained he started belting each and every group picking up each one from the group. There were lots of points which he brought up and there were lots of ideas which i will list a little later.

At the end he asked one person to play the game blindfolded without the help of others. The person was reluctant to come forward to play the game stating that his hand would shiver considering the person was asked play the game with his wrong hand. Astonishlingly ther person managed to build a tower of height 14- Man this was a real great achievement.

After this a person from the canteen was called to play the game. He wasn’t aware of the game and had never played it before. He started placing one cube above each other unlike other people who placed 4 cubes at a time and went on placing 4 cubes at one layer. After building to a height of 9 he was asked to reamove the blindfold and have a look at the structure- The person was really happy with what he had created. Mr. Banerjee pointed out that an average man without any prior knowledge and technical backgroung could build up to 9 with a continuous appreciation for his effort.

The conclusions were:

Fear causes failure even before coming to the arena

Start believing in yoursleves to work wonders

Be careful with what instructions you give to others- Never restrict anyone with instructions.

There was a mention of 5 kind of people:

Dreamer

Train Driver: One to whom all the instructions are to be given

Doctor: Act only when there is a problem

Part Entrepreneur: Farmer- Cultivating on the small peice of land which he has

Fisherman: Main Entrepreneur- he has only a net and boat with him and goes beyond his limits to catch fish.

Thats all for the day-3. More yet to come-> Day-4 and Day-5

Going in to the Day-2, the discussion that was started at the end of Day-1 turned into a fierce debate with participants opposing view of the other. Just to remind u- The game was very simple- U are given four rings and a peg at distance. The aim is to put the ring in to the peg and there are 10 positions marked from 1 … 10 each point separated from the other by some distance. Putting the ring in the peg meant SUCCESS with 1 point (mind it from any position) and the ring dropping out meant FAILURE with 0 points Some of the participants – guess a few- had some sort of knowledge about the market analysis and stuff. They used it to analyze the game situation but the facilitator, Mr Pradeep Banerjee, was too good to tackle. He had a solution for anything and everything the participants questioned. What i feel after playing the game is that a person has to measure his abilities and analyze the opportunity at hand and then take calculated risks in going at the opportunities. For every thing at first there’s a risk factor involved- but an entrepreneur’s fav is Risk There were some points mentioned by the Mr Banerjee- Measuring the opportunity- which none of us did, Its better to Succeed and go up rather than Fail and Come down, taking calculated risks. He mentioned in brief about having a Feedback System in us- which would help us in analyzing our behavioral history (Something similar to the Browser History)

After the intense discussion we were told about the aspect of identifying one self. Identifying slef is a very important aspect. The characteristics of a person can be defined in terms of characteristics known by self and others, not known by self but known by others -> Which will help in identifying the weakness, not know by others but known by self-> this includes all the hidden characteristics of a person, not known to both slef and others-> this is called as the Blind Spot. The very big advantage of opening up is that the energy or the time can be spent in doing other activities which would otherwise have been wasted in trying to project one self by hiding his/her characteristics.

This was followed by a small tea break. Biscuits and some snacks were served. We had a break for about 15 minutes and then we gathered back.

Mr. Banerjee started with a story involving a big transaction. We were asked to find out how much profit/loss a particular person got at the end of the transaction. Every one came up with their answers- some were similar, some different. Each time two of them were called on to the front to discuss the reason for arriving at the answer. There were around 8 such discussions and out of all of them no one could convince the other. Behind this there was a huge lesson to be learnt. One observation which he made was that none of us was ready to listen to what the other had to say, which was absolutely wrong. Each one of us has to think from the direction of the other person and find out if he is right or wrong and point him where he was wrong but we never did that We were told to always keep the learning window open, listen to what others have to say. There was also mention about “Sense of humour”

We gathered back after lunch break. As we had our lunch and its quite often that ppl fall asleep we were told t hat we would be playing a Quiz. I thought it to be a general quiz but it wasn’t. We were asked to solve 5 puzzles. After sometime we discussed these puzzles. We later realised that these puzzles were with a purpose- To emphasize the need for “Lateral Thinking”. After this small task we were divided into groups of 5 and one from each group was made the observer who would observe the discussion among the group members. We were given with a case study and were asked to estimate the profits, sales at the end of three years. It was a mock industrial scenario where in we were given the capital, sales, profit, investment for each unit, initial capital and 4 places where we could set up the units. This was like a decision making task and at the end of it one from each team had to present the case. It was a pretty interesting task. With this the Day-2 came to an end.

Canonical Ltd. announced the upcoming availability of Ubuntu® 8.10 Desktop Edition for free download on 30 October. In related news, Canonical also announced the simultaneous release of Ubuntu 8.10 Server Edition.

Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition is designed for the pervasively connected digital lifestyle. With new 3G network support, users can move smoothly from wired and WiFi networks onto 3G cellphone networks while traveling. Ubuntu 8.10 is also built to be shared – users can start a quick “guest session” on the fly and let someone use their computer to surf the web or check email, while maintaining the security and integrity of their own data. And if that person really enjoys their brief session as an Ubuntu guest, they can put Ubuntu on any USB key and take it home to install on their own computer rather than having to burn a CD.

As a bonus, all Ubuntu 8.10 users will be able to enjoy programming from the BBC, with high quality streamed content available through the default media players in Ubuntu 8.10. Canonical has worked with the BBC to make sure that much of the material is available to users in all locations.

Features:

3G Support: For constant connectivity public WiFi has limitations. Improvements to the network manager in Ubuntu 8.10 makes it simple to detect and connect to 3G networks and manage connectivity. This connectivity is delivered through an inbuilt 3G modem, through ‘dongle’ support, through a mobile phone or through Bluetooth. It is a complex environment that Ubuntu 8.10 simplifies through a single interface and the auto-detection of many of the most popular devices.

Ubuntu on USB Drive: Ubuntu has been made available to users as an image for CDs and DVDs to date. But CDs and DVDs are slower, less portable and less convenient than USB sticks. Now, a simple application in Ubuntu will allow users to write Ubuntu to a USB drive, even a modified version of Ubuntu with their data on it, so it can be carried everywhere to plug in and use on any machine.

Guest Sessions: In a world of ‘always on’ pervasive computing it is more likely that users lend their computers to colleagues or friends at conferences, cafes or at parties so they can check email, etc. Guest sessions allow users to lock down a session easily so a guest can use the full system without interference with programs or data.

BBC Content: Starting the media players within Ubuntu (Totem Movie Player and Rhythmbox) launches a menu of selected content from the broadcaster that is free to air. This is a mixture of video, radio and podcasts and available in high quality, much of it playable using non-proprietary codecs. Content is constantly updated via the corporation’s stream and will vary dependent on location, though some content will be available for every user.

Gnome 2.24 Desktop Environment: Latest GNOME desktop environment incorporated. New features include a new instant messaging client, a built-in time tracker, improved file management and toolbars plus better support for multiple monitor use with the ability to set screen resolution by monitor.

Download Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition here.
Alternatively Order Ubuntu CDs here.
